Basic Gacha Mechanics

Genshin Impact is a gacha game type. "What is this?," you may ask:

Gacha is a common chest/loot system in asian games to unlock all sorts of things. In the case of Genshin Impact, characters, weapons and probably skins (in the future) are locked behind a wish system.

Some systems are free to play friendly, some are not. Genshin is, in our opinion, semi-friendly but not one of the friendliest systems out there. By playing daily you can get close to half a pull each day with the Adventure Guild comissions and Spiral Abyss rewards, chest primogems excluded. So in the end it depends on luck how to get a character.

Genshin Impact has a gacha side currency system which allows you to get 4* characters in a monthly rotation with. The best way to save up for a guaranteed 5* is to save up 180 pulls (28.800 primogems) to be prepared for the worst, which is the pity pull.

The pity pull is a guaranteed limit where you will get a promoted item/character out of the banner pool after a certain amount of wishes/pulls. If you get to this limit, the character drop will 100%. The mechanics will be explained in the following text.

Gacha Chances & Costs

The "Pity Pull" is at 90 pulls for 5* and 10 pulls for 4* items & characters

Regular banner chances are:

  • 5* character/weapon chance is at 0.6%
  • 4* character/weapon chance is at 5.1%

If you happen to get a 4* before the 10th pull the 10-pull chance will be reset.

If your last 4* pity is less then 10 pulls away from your 5* pity (i.e. the 90 one), your next guaranteed will be the 5* item/character.

Rate Up banner chances are:

  • 5* character chance is at 0.6%  (on the respective banner)
  • 5* weapon chance is at 0.7% (on the respective banner)
  • 4* character chance is at 5.1%  (on the respective banner)
  • 4* weapon chance is at 6.0%  (on the respective banner)

Note: It does not matter is you use a 10x pull or pull ten times with single 1x pulls - every 10th pull will be at least one 4* guaranteed or higher, if the respective drop counter is at zero.

One Gacha pull will cost 160 Primogems.

Monthly Pass

The Monthly Pass is at 30 Yuan which will be likekly around 4.99 USD or 5,49 €.

The Pass will grant 300 initial Primogems and 90 Primogems daily over a 30 day period.

Free 2 Play Income

As a F2P player, there are following sustainable Primogem income sources:

  • 60 Primogems per day via Comission (4x10 per quest, 1x20 by completing all four quests)
  • 200 - 400 Primogems per week by clearing the Spiral Abyss

Real Money Cost

If we convert the currently known chinese prices, a pack of 8080 Primogems would cost around 100$, which result in 50 wishes/pulls.

So one pull is at a average price of 2$ per wish/pull.

Banner & UP-Chance

The game will rotate periodically between UP-Rate banners to promote certain Characters.

Understanding the UP-Rate mechanics is pretty simple.

If we take a 4* star character as an example, we would have a roundabout 1:20 chance to get a 4* star character. If this triggers, then you can get any character which is in the pool. If the UP-Rate is at 50%, the chance, once it is triggered, is 50:50 to get a char out of the total pool or one of the UP-Rate pool.

Let's say Baidou and Xiangling are UP-Rated with 50%. Then the total pool would be 50% for all 4° star characters, 25% for Baidou and 25% for Xiangling. Which is a bit simplified, but you should get the idea. (It is a bit higher than 25%, since they are also in the 50% base pool)

UP-Rated banners vary and often have slightly higher pull chances, rather than the default 0.6% or 5.1%. For these rates. please check the specific banner on our Banner Archive.

Pity Pull

The so called "Pity Pull" which should trigger every 90 pulls, can carry over in the same category of banner pulls. Character Banners are seperated from weapon Banners!

This means if you are close to 90 pulls at the character pull, this dropchance will carry over to the next rotation of the character banner. It is not shared with other banners.
